About five years ago, the day before Christmas Eve, Stephen had been called to an elderly couple’s house, where the boiler had stopped working. They had no hot water or heating, and the boiler was making a loud clunking noise. Stephen couldn’t really work out what the problem was with the boiler, but he knew that no matter what, if he needed to order any parts it would be at least 2 weeks over the Christmas period before he could get hold of them.
He had tried everything he could think of, but eventually had to give up. Leaning on the boiler he said “Angels, you’re really going to have to help me with this one!” and began to pack his equipment away. He was distraught at the thought of leaving the elderly couple with no hot water or heating over the Christmas period, but there was nothing more he could do.
As he opened the side door to his van to start putting away his equipment, he noticed something fall out onto the ground. He picked it up and noticed it was a circuit board, worth about 200. Stephen never kept spare parts in his van due to their value, but ordered them in as and when he needed them.
He hadn’t thought of checking to see if the circuit board for the boiler was working or not, so he thought “why not”, and gave it one last try.
Luckily, it turned out to be the exact same circuit board needed for that particular boiler, out of the 100’s of different makes and types. He fitted the new circuit board, replacing the old one and after fitting it, the boiler worked perfectly.
The elderly couple enjoyed their Christmas with warm water and heating.
Stephen has always believed in angels - he says it’s nice to have someone to turn to when you need help, and they have often helped him out before with his work – usually placing thoughts into his head about what could be wrong with the various bits of equipment.
